Quality Indoor Tanning Lotions at Urban Sun Tanning

The other day, I had a client mention that she heard she could save a few dollars by buying indoor tanning lotion online. She asked me if there is there any truth to that?
As with any product you buy online, the only advice we can give is caveat emptor, let the buyer beware!
Some things to think about when considering online lotion purchases:
- Counterfeits. Yes, just like fake designer handbags and watches, they actually counterfeit tanning lotion now. Others are coming from individuals that are buying them in a salon, using the product, and filling the bottle back up with some cheap store bought lotion and selling them online.
- Internet lotions may be expired. Since high end lotions have active ingredients such as the biosaccarides and vitamins and minerals, they do have an expiration date. Result: a foul odor and lack of effectiveness.
- Beware of flea market finds. In San Diego, the temperatures at our local markets can get into the 80’s, 90’s or even hotter. Once exposed to this kind of heat and not stored at room temperature, tanning products completely lose their effectiveness. Which means you’ll be wasting your time and money.
- Do you really want to put something on your body that was sold to you unofficially, by an individual who you do not know, who is not a reputable salon owner?
- Could the product be damaging to the skin? Cause allergic reactions? If the product is bad or you have a reaction, who can you call for reimbursement or a product exchange?
- Only tanning salons are licensed to sell indoor tanning lotions.
Ultimately, considering the unknowns and the risks involved, are the Internet and flea market deals worth your hard earned money? Shouldn’t you get what you pay for?
